Henderson Settlement
Henderson Settlement is located in the South Eastern part of Kentucky and is part of the same Conference as Red Bird Mission. Henderson is located in Frakes, Kentucky and is located is some of the poorest area of these continuous United States. The West Virginia, East Kentucky, and East Tennessee hills are home to some of the least of these that Jesus was talking about. At the Henderson Facility there are dormitory rooms that house bunk beds and have very nice showers as well as other bathroom facilities. The facility has its own kitchen and dining hall and large meeting room. The work that volunteers can do varies from farming, fencing, and construction to finishing projects that were begun by other volunteers such as painting, and trimming a room out. There are pigs, cows, and plants that need tending to in the nursery. There is crafting and sewing that can be done for the craft shop. There is canning of fruits and veggies in season as well. The thrift shop needs volunteers and when one cannot find anything else to do, there are always those Campbell’s Co UPC codes that need to be cut and organized. Volunteers will not be bored as there is always something to do. Wednesday is the volunteers’ day off from work so they usually go around the countryside seeing what they can see. The Henderson volunteer will definitely not be disappointed with this mission trip.
