Children’s Ministries
We at St. Luke have committed ourselves to reaching and nurturing all families for Jesus Christ. Weekly and seasonal programs are offered for children of all ages to help them learn of Jesus’ love and his plan for their lives. Adults are encouraged to become involved in our ministry through their commitment of time and prayers.
Listed below are some of the ministries we currently offer for children:
NURSERY
Our nursery offers a warm and secure setting for infants and toddlers. It is staffed by trained individuals and is provided for worship services, Sunday School, Wednesday Night Together, and most other church functions.
SUNDAY SCHOOL
We have children’s classes for 3 years old through 5th grade. Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and is led by caring and committed teachers. All age levels use the “Faithweaver” Bible curriculum, which is created to be Biblically sound, educationally effective and engaging for every child.
CHILDREN’S CHURCH
Children ages three years old through 1st grade are invited to attend Children’s Church. The children begin worship at the 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services in the sanctuary with the Children’s Minute, a Biblically-based story or message that often complements the Bible story from Sunday School. After the Children’s Minute, the children are escorted to Children’s Church in Room 111 and are picked up afterwards by their parents. We use Faithweaver’s “Kids Own Worship.”
PIONEER CLUBS
This is a Christ-centered club that helps children put Christ in every phase of life. It helps them form healthy relationships, and develop positive feelings about themselves as they participate in Bible exploration, games, singing, and skill-building activities. In addition to our regular meetings we hold our annual Talent Show Sleep-over and participate in Pioneer Clubs Sunday. Throughout the year the children take part in many exciting activities while learning about the Bible and focusing on how to involve Christ in their every day decisions. Clubs are available for children Kindergarten through 5th grade. They meet on Wednesday nights from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m., September through May. We also offer a Bible Story for Pre-K children ages three and four from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Activities are provided for babies and one and two-year-olds led by our Young Children’s Ministry Director and the nursery staff.
CHERUB CHOIR
This choir is for children ages 3 years old to 5 years old. They meet September through May on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. The children sing once a month during the 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. worship services, with a special performance during the Christmas season.
ELEMENTARY CHILDREN’S CHOIRS

They also present a Christmas productions each year. In our choir program, each child gets to sing a solo or have a speaking part if they desire.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
This exciting week is the highlight of the year for many children. During VBS, the children enjoy participating in Bible storytelling, arts and crafts, music, recreation, and fellowship.
SPORTS
St. Luke United Methodist Church participates in a church sports league and has children’s teams for t-ball and softball. The children learn good sportsmanship and form friendships in this fun league.
ST. LUKE PRESCHOOL
St. Luke opened its Preschool in August of 2000 and serves children from one to five years old. Hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., with options for two-day, three-day or five-day programs. Extended hours are available from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Please contact the Preschool office for information or enrollment. Registration is first come, first serve. Space is limited.
SACRED DANCE
Sacred Dance is offered for children and youth in grades two through 12 and meets on Sunday afternoons from 3:15-4:00 p.m. during the school year. The children learn to express scripture and praise the Lord through creative movement and also perform in worship services.
BELLS AND BOOMWHACKERS
Bells and Boomwhackers, for kindergarten through 2nd grade, meet each Wednesday from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. in room 114, to have fun and learn to play some really neat musical instruments.
Handbells are color coded rhythm instruments. Each metal bell is marked with the proper note and number to help children learn the music0al scale. Each bell is five inches tall. The long handles enable players to grasp the bells securely.
Boomwhackers are color coded tuned musical tubes, that when whacked against something, produce a really cool sound! Boomwhackers are also called ‘Musical Tubes’. They range in size depending on the note. Our Bells and Boomwhackers choir is a wonderful St. Luke tradition.
In Bells and Boomwhackers choir, the children learn to read music and learn skills in playing in a group. They perform pieces occasionally during Sunday Worship Services and during the monthly Pioneer Club Assembly.
KID’S DRAMA
Older Elementary Children (grades 3 to 5) work on skits to be presented in our Pioneer Clubs assemblies and make backdrops for their performances. They also help with scenery for the Children’s Choir. Drama and Scenery meets each Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in the Choir Room, September through May.
